Classic Folk Rock from Sandy Denny’s North Star Grassman and The Ravens

Sandy_dennySandy Denny is regarded as the greatest English folk singer to have ever graced an ear (although I’d refute that). Sandy reached an apex in her career with the wonderful LP, The North Star Grassman and The Ravens. The title track from the album is possibly the finest thing she ever recorded, showcashing her trademark lilt, and ace folky psyche underbubblings. Late November, the opener, is also another brilliant showcase of Denny’s abilities, a tender sweeping song which will melt the coldest of hearts. A couple of tunes let the LP down, usually the uptempo numbers like Down in the Flood, but largely, this is an immaculate LP which can only be compared to an English equivalent to Emmyloue Harris.
