Strawberry Alarm Clock bring out the ‘Incense and Peppermints’

In the mid sixties, many American garage groups suddenly found themselves saying things like ‘far out’ and backchatting about Mao… some took lots of drugs, others merely pretended… but it doesn’t really matter which because that was an era that was astonishingly fertile for great singles with big ideas. One gem was Strawberry Alarm Clock’s ‘Incense and Peppermints’ which astonishingly (for a counterculture song) went straight to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, and also featured in the B Movie, ‘Psyche Out’! Enjoy.

Mof ‘easy life’ Gimmers must have the cushiest job in the world. Imagine a life scanning youtube clips for your favourite artists – generally whimsical twits with loud shirts and moustaches – before posting them on a website along with a few quickly scribed quips. In the words of a real guitar godhead, ‘money for nothing’! I assume he does get paid for it. My advice to his boss is to make him do some proper work…maybe get him to clean your car or summat.
