Festival of the Day: Porthcawl Elvis festival, Porthcawl, 29th Sep, Prices starting at £7.50

Elvis_2Sometimes, you see something and you think it’s too good to be true. The Porthcawl Elvis Festival is one of those things. For those unaware, Elvis is completely dead, so the festival promises to be a ramshackle mixture of people in bad sequined capes, and fantastic impressionists belting out some of the finest Rock’n’Roll ever made.

Porthcawl is usually a sleepy seaside village, midway between Cardiff and Newport. September will see it transformed into Rockabilly/Burger heaven, with Elvis discos, competitions to see who looks most like Elvis and of course, tribute bands-a-plenty. Depending on your mood, this will be funny as hell, or a touching gathering of those who loved the great man.

Thanks for the plug, but Porthcawl is located on the coast between Cardiff and Swansea – not Newport.

The Porthcawl Elvis Festival features the best Elvis Tribute Artistes in the UK and Europe and is indeed a great fun weekend.

Porthcawl is not a village either – its a town !

The Elvis Festival runs from Thursday 28th September until the very early hours of 2nd October.

It’s a fantastic weekend and very very busy – so, if you are planning to join in, you’d better book your hotel very soon..There’s wall-to-wall Elvis music all weekend with all the top Elvis artists, an Irish blue grass tribute band and Nashville stars appearing. The highlight of the weekend will be ‘The Elvis Presley Story’ starring Mario Kombou and the rest of the cast of the West End’s ‘Jailhouse Rock’.

Tickets available from The Grand Pavilion Box Office on 01656 786996.
